West Bank: Israel plans to transfer settler authority to police

Tensions are escalating in the West Bank as the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Israel of using settlers to facilitate the annexation of Palestinian territories through violence and forced displacement. The ministry reported a dangerous increase in settler attacks, particularly in the Kusra area, often occurring under the protection of Israeli security forces.

In response to the situation, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has instructed officials to prepare a plan to transfer authority over Israeli settlers in the West Bank from the military to the police. Katz stated that the IDF's role should not involve managing civil matters for settlers. This move follows a decision by the Israeli government to establish 104 new settlements in the region.

In the village of Kusra, the Israeli military announced it would deploy an additional infantry battalion to strengthen operational control and prevent further incidents. Meanwhile, local residents report that Palestinian families have been isolated for three days after settlers used tents to block access roads to their homes, a tactic described as an attempt to force residents to abandon their property.
