West Bank olive harvest faces surge in settler and military attacks

The Palestinian olive harvest in the West Bank is facing significant disruption due to a surge in attacks by Israeli settlers and military forces. According to the Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, at least 19 separate settler attacks were recorded on a single Friday, involving physical assaults, the theft of crops and livestock, and the destruction of property.

Specific incidents include the uprooting of more than 50 olive trees in Qusra and the burning of a Palestinian-owned vehicle in Tal. Farmers have reported being targeted with gunfire, pepper spray, and stones, while some were forced to flee their lands. In Deir Abu Mashal, ten people were reportedly injured during clashes involving rubber-coated bullets and physical aggression.

The Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture reported that the agricultural sector suffered over 3 million dollars in losses in a single week. This includes damage to 3,192 olive trees valued at approximately 2.7 million dollars. The violence has affected multiple governorates, with Jenin reporting the highest economic impact at 2.63 million dollars, followed by Ramallah and Hebron.
