Qusra settler violence signals broader West Bank displacement risks
Recent reports highlight escalating settler violence in the Palestinian town of Qusra, located southeast of Nablus. In mid-August 2026, attacks were reported with the stated aim of displacing residents to facilitate the establishment of four new Israeli settlements and the seizure of 30 square kilometers of land.
Observers suggest these events in Qusra reflect a broader pattern of land expropriation and displacement in the West Bank. Some commentators link current activities to historical military strategies used during the Nakba, suggesting a systematic approach to annexation.
In a related development, Meretz party leader Zahava Galon has called for an investigation into Rabbi Dov Lior, the chief rabbi of the Kiryat Arba settlement. Galon argued that Lior’s religious rulings, which include justifications for the destruction of Gaza and the West Bank, constitute incitement to mass killing rather than protected freedom of speech.
