West Bank: UN and international actors condemn Israeli settlement expansion
United Nations official Ramiz Alakbarov has stated that Israeli occupation activities and settlements in the West Bank have no legal validity and constitute a flagrant violation of international law. Alakbarov warned that recent tenders for the E1 settlement project in the occupied East Jerusalem area could effectively sever the northern and southern parts of the West Bank, undermining the possibility of a viable Palestinian state.
In a separate development, Denmark and 20 other countries, along with the European Commission, issued a joint declaration condemning Israel's plans to expand settlements in the West Bank. The signatories described the E1 project as unacceptable and warned it could destroy the territorial continuity of Palestinian territories.
Additionally, the Palestinian Commission of Inquiry Against Settlements and the Wall reported that Israeli authorities, under orders signed by IDF Central Command head Avi Bluth, have approved 18 new influence zones for illegal settlements. These zones provide an administrative framework for future expansion, including infrastructure development and the potential reclassification of Palestinian land as state land.
