West Bay Opera performs Mozart’s ‘Abduction from the Seraglio’

West Bay Opera has staged a production of Mozart’s 1782 opera, ‘Abduction from the Seraglio’. The production highlights the composer’s early operatic success and his transition toward the more radical musical and stage combinations seen in his later collaborations with Lorenzo da Ponte.

The cast features Hak Soo Kim as Belmonte, noted for an agile lyric tenor and strong use of extended sustenatos. Casey Germain performs the role of Osmin, the Pasha’s overseer, providing a stern presence that shifts into comedy during later scenes. The production is noted for its vocal quality and a libretto that addresses themes relevant to modern audiences.
