BJP wins key by-elections in West Bengal and Assam

BJP by-elections Nandigram Rejinagar Nagaon

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured significant victories in several by-elections across India. In West Bengal, the BJP won both the Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly seats. In Nandigram, Hasi Rani Rath won by a record margin of over 1.22 lakh votes, defeating Congress candidate Milan Pradhan. In Rejinagar, Shankharavh Sarkar won by more than 75,000 votes, defeating the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) nominee. The Rejinagar result is notable as the BJP made inroads into a constituency with a large Muslim population.

In Assam, the BJP's Devasish Sharma won the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, defeating AIUDF's Badruddin Ajmal. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma characterized the win as a major political defeat for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Additionally, the AINRC, an NDA ally, won the Thattanchavady bypoll in Puducherry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to voters and party workers, stating that the results demonstrate a deep connection with the BJP-NDA's good governance agenda.
