West Bengal BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya bans ‘Azadi’ slogans

On Kargil Vijay Diwas, West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya warned that any person raising "Azadi", "Kashmir Mange Azadi" or similar anti‑national slogans in Kolkata would face strict legal action. He said such individuals should be "uprooted through state‑run hospitals" and that the police should let the law take its course, accusing communists of trying to divide the state.

Bhattacharya’s remarks came as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a strong message to Pakistan on the Kashmir issue during the same commemorations. The warning echoed earlier statements by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who also pledged to act against anti‑national slogans.

The statements have intensified debate in West Bengal over freedom of expression, protest rights and enforcement of anti‑national laws.
