West Bengal BJP leaders allege ₹30 crore fraud by Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee in Cyclone Amphan relief

BJP leaders in West Bengal filed formal complaints against Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, accusing him of orchestrating a large‑scale fraud in the distribution of Cyclone Amphan relief funds. The first complaint was lodged at Nodhakhali police station in South 24‑Parganas, alleging that fake documents were used to siphon roughly ₹30 crore meant for cyclone victims, with applications submitted under duplicate numbers or addresses.

A second complaint was filed at Bishnupur police station, accusing Banerjee of issuing threats after his comments on a recent party office demolition. Diamond Harbour MP and senior Trinamool leader also claimed that BJP cadres were staging rallies around the incident. The allegations suggest that relief money allocated by the central government failed to reach the intended beneficiaries, with senior district officials reportedly implicated.

The complaints target Banerjee’s alleged role in diverting funds through false accounts and claim involvement of the block’s former BDO and other administrative officers. No arrests have been reported, and the matter is now under police investigation.
