West Bengal BJP MLA threatens self-immolation over murder case controversy
Barrackpore MLA Kaustuv Bagchi has threatened to set himself on fire outside the BJP state headquarters if the party inducts Uttam Das and Prashanta Chowdhury. The two men were named in connection with the 2020 murder of BJP leader Manish Shukla, who was shot dead in front of the party office in Titagarh.
Bagchi expressed strong opposition to the potential induction of Das and Chowdhury, alleging that their reported association with senior party leaders, including Minister Arjun Singh, has caused public resentment in his constituency. He stated that seeing these individuals sharing platforms with party members creates a negative impression and damages the party's image.
Bagchi indicated he is preparing legal action and intends to write to the Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary, and police officials. He further warned that he would oppose any attempt to bring the two men into the party, citing his long-term political commitment to the cause.
