West Bengal Chief Minister launches six‑day Kolkata cleanliness drive

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) headquarters on Monday to launch a six‑day citywide cleanliness campaign called “Welcome to Cleanliness”. The drive, covering all 144 wards, runs until June 20 and is timed to precede the International Day of Yoga celebrations on June 21, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be in the city.

The event marked the first time a chief minister has attended a programme at the KMC Municipal Hall. Former councillors from both the BJP and Trinamool Congress, as well as former mayor Firhad Hakim, were invited. State Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul has introduced a mobile app to monitor the initiative. The campaign aims to improve sanitation across Kolkata ahead of the large‑scale Yoga Day events.
