West Bengal Chief Minister Shubendu Adhikari ranks among India's poorest chief ministers

An analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch of self‑declared asset statements from 31 Indian chief ministers shows that West Bengal’s chief minister Shubendu Adhikari has declared assets worth ₹85.87 million, placing him second‑lowest after Jammu‑Kashmir chief minister Umar Abdullah (₹55.24 million). Karnataka chief minister D.K. Shivakumar tops the list with assets exceeding ₹1,413 crore.

Adhikari’s assets comprise roughly ₹24.57 million in movable property and ₹61.30 million in immovable property. Overall, the average declared wealth of the 31 chief ministers is ₹118.07 crore. Four of them have declared assets above ₹1,000 crore, and 14 have criminal cases pending, with 11 facing serious charges.
