West Bengal Assembly tables long‑awaited CAG report amid corruption probes

On July 25, the final day of the six‑day extended budget session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on state income and expenditures will be tabled. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said the report, extremely rare during the 15‑year tenure of the Mamata Banerjee‑led Trinamool Congress government, could expose financial irregularities, including in disaster‑relief distribution. He pledged that no minister or leader will be spared and the state will recommend to the Governor that FIRs be filed against any officials found involved in corruption.

The chief minister will also address the ongoing investigation into free Sebaashray health camps run by Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee in his Diamond Harbour constituency, South 24 Parganas, where police complaints and FIRs have been lodged over mismanagement and misuse of medical equipment. In the second half of the session, Panchayat Affairs & Rural Development Minister Dilip Ghosh will table a key departmental bill, followed by a two‑hour discussion. The session, which began on July 20, has focused on budgetary allocations for various state departments, including a recent debate on the Home department budget after a 14‑year gap.
