West Bengal CM announces police strengthening measures

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced a series of measures to reorganize and strengthen the state police force. During an event at the Kolkata Police Headquarters, Adhikari emphasized the importance of rapid response capabilities during disasters.

Key initiatives include the allocation of 100 crore rupees to provide four '112' emergency response vehicles to every police station. A total of 552 vehicles are scheduled to be inaugurated at the Brigade Parade Ground during Mahalaya. Additionally, a new brigade of 200 civil defense personnel, named 'Arjun', will be formed to assist with disaster management and include firefighters.

The modernization plan also focuses on enhancing women's assistance desks and increasing surveillance within the cybercrime department to combat rising digital offenses. To honor bravery, the 'Jivan Rakshak' award will be introduced for officers who risk their lives in the line of duty. Furthermore, financial support, including rations, advance salary, and a 20 percent Dearness Allowance, will be provided to lower-level personnel during the Durga Puja festival.
