Suvendu Adhikari denies rumors of President returning West Bengal anti-gangster bill
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has denied reports claiming that President Droupadi Murmu returned the ‘West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Bill, 2026’ for reconsideration.
Adhikari addressed the rumors on social media, labeling them as baseless propaganda spread by political opponents. He clarified that the proposed legislation, which aims to curb organized crime, extortion, and illegal mining through measures like preventive detention and property seizure, is currently under review by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) also issued a fact check, describing claims that the President had rejected the bill as misleading. Official statements confirm that the bill has not been returned and remains in the examination process by the central government.
