West Bengal government announces uniform colour clarification, scheme renamings and 20% dearness allowance hike
Education Minister Deepak Barman told reporters that the state has no objection to a blue‑white colour for school uniforms and that any change will be decided on policy grounds, not merely on colour.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that the popular "Kanyashree" scholarship scheme will be renamed "Kanyaratna" and that the "Green Companion" bicycle‑distribution programme will be renamed "Sarathi". He assured that the financial assistance and other benefits for students will continue unchanged.
The state government also declared a 20 % increase in dearness allowance for all West Bengal government employees effective from October, with October salaries to be credited before the Durga Puja festival. The move aims to narrow the dearness‑allowance gap between central and state employees, now estimated at about 22 % after previous reductions.
