West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari orders CCTV monitoring to curb land‑scam corruption

The West Bengal state government, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has decided to install closed‑circuit television (CCTV) cameras at every level of the Land and Land‑Reforms Department. The move is intended to monitor officials, track visitors and prevent further land‑related fraud, a problem highlighted during the previous Trinamool Congress administration.

Adhikari also warned that the new system will help expose any misuse of the department’s files, recalling a past incident where thousands of land‑record files went missing. In the same briefing he accused the former TMC government of allowing “infiltrators” to profit from land schemes and announced a new law that triples fines for property damage, including possible jail terms. The announcement was made at an administrative meeting attended by the chief minister and senior officials.
