West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari orders live questioning of illegal building promoters in Kolkata

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari warned that promoters and officials linked to illegal construction in 27 Kolkata buildings will face live questioning before the media. After a meeting with the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI), Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul announced that 193 stalled projects have been cleared to resume, but serious violations were still found in the 27 cases.

The state government has formed a special task force and a high‑level investigation committee chaired by PWD secretary Antara Acharya to monitor compliance. New rules will require mandatory soil testing, structural audits and plan verification for all future construction, and those responsible for the illegal work will be penalised.
