West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari reviews rural job scheme
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has convened an emergency review meeting with block development officers (BDOs) to address the implementation of the 125-day rural employment scheme, also known as the VB-GRAMJI project.
The meeting, held at the Panchayat Affairs and Rural Development Department headquarters, follows reports of administrative laxity and sluggish progress at the district and panchayat levels. Adhikari is expected to conduct a detailed district-wise and block-wise assessment of completed projects and identify specific areas where implementation has lagged.
During the session, the Chief Minister will seek explanations from officials regarding reported shortcomings. He has indicated that any continued administrative negligence will not be tolerated, suggesting that BDOs failing to prioritize the project could face transfers. The review aims to resolve implementation challenges and includes directives to launch awareness campaigns to increase rural participation.
