West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari unveils job scheme, compensation for migrant workers

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari urged migrant workers to return to the state, promising 125 days of annual employment after receiving job cards. He said all eligible beneficiaries of the Annapurna Yojana will be registered by August 30 and will receive payments after verification.

The chief minister also handed over Rs 5 lac compensation cheques to the families of 11 West Bengal migrant workers killed in a construction tunnel accident in Namchi, Sikkim, on July 20. Each family was offered a home‑guard post with the state police. Adhikari announced that about half of the 25 closed tea gardens in North Bengal will be reopened within three months and that nationally recognised milk‑product manufacturers will receive 15 acres of land each in South and North Bengal to set up units, creating further jobs.
