West Bengal completes first phase of census fieldwork ahead of deadline

West Bengal has completed the first phase of its census fieldwork ahead of the September 14 deadline. Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari announced that 100 percent of the house-listing work has been finished across all districts, subdivisions, blocks, municipal corporations, and municipalities.

Out of an estimated 3.69 crore houses, 3.68 crore (3,68,30,150) have been counted, representing approximately 99.7 percent of the estimated households. The Chief Minister praised the administrative machinery and the efforts of grassroots enumerators and supervisors who traveled through hilly, plain, and riverine areas under various weather conditions to complete the task.

Adhikari also expressed gratitude to district officials, including District Magistrates and Block Development Officers, as well as the citizens of the state for their cooperation during the census process.
