West Bengal Leaders Detained and Summoned in Major Corruption Probes

Trinamool Congress senior figure Asit Majumdar was taken into police custody on July 21 while traveling to a Martyrs' Day rally in Kolkata. The arrest, announced by local authorities, came without an official reason, though it follows a previous protest in May where Majumdar and supporters blocked a road in Hooghly to object to alleged harassment of MP Abhishek Banerjee.

Separately, the Enforcement Directorate issued an interrogation notice to rebel Trinamool legislator Madan Mitra concerning a multi‑crore municipalities recruitment irregularities case tied to the former Mamata Banerjee administration. Earlier investigations included raids on Mitra’s residences, notices to his family members, and a broader probe that has also implicated other officials and uncovered illicit assets worth over ₹100 crore.
