West Bengal man sentenced to life imprisonment for murder over land dispute
A court in West Bengal has sentenced Raja Ali Sarkar to life imprisonment for the murder of his relative, Israfil Sarkar, following a long-standing land dispute.
The incident occurred in the Daulatabad police station area of Murshidabad. According to police reports, the fatal confrontation took place on the morning of April 12 several years ago. The dispute escalated when Raja Ali attempted to pick jackfruits from Israfil Sarkar's land. When Israfil objected to the action, a verbal altercation ensued, during which Raja Ali attacked him with a sickle, causing fatal injuries to his throat.
A formal complaint was lodged by Anarul Islam, a family member of the deceased, which led to the investigation and subsequent conviction.
