West Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh accuses Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee over rally

On July 4, West Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh targeted former chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, claiming the party’s recent rally was a hijack of a Congress movement and linking it to violence against BJP workers after the 2021 state elections. Ghosh said the violence, including attacks on BJP homes and alleged killings, left a lasting wound and urged that Abhishek be sent to jail.

The Kolkata High Court on July 3 ordered Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee to submit affidavits in an ongoing contempt case. The case stems from a July 21 rally that allegedly violated a 2018 court order prohibiting blockage of major city intersections and requiring unimpeded access for pedestrians, vehicles and emergency services. The court set the next hearing for August.
