BJP passes resolution condemning Congress decision on Vande Mataram

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has passed a formal resolution condemning the Congress Working Committee's decision to restrict the singing of the national song, Vande Mataram, to its first two stanzas at party events. The BJP, led by National President Nitin Nabin, characterized the move as political appeasement and announced a nationwide campaign to promote the full six-stanza composition.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh criticized the Congress position as unconstitutional and a serious matter regarding national symbols. He argued that the 1937 decision, which the Congress is reaffirming, was a compromise made under pressure from the Muslim League. The BJP maintains that the song's status is protected by the 2026 parliamentary amendment, which grants it legal status equivalent to the national anthem.

In response, the INDIA bloc accused the BJP of using the controversy to divert public attention from critical economic issues such as inflation and unemployment. Congress leaders defended the decision, stating it was based on a 1937 resolution supported by prominent freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru to maintain secular harmony.
