West Bengal plans recruitment of 100,000 government employees

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced a massive recruitment drive aiming to fill one lakh government positions across 54 departments within the current financial year. The initiative is intended to address unemployment and fill vacancies in various sectors, including teaching, police, and other government departments.

Specific targets include the recruitment of 12,000 state police officers, with 3,700 positions reserved for women, and 5,000 personnel for the Kolkata Police. The plan also earmarks approximately 50,000 posts for teachers and college professors, as well as 1,000 posts for the Eastern Frontier Rifles.

To ensure transparency and prevent corruption, the administration plans to implement several new measures. These include providing candidates with carbon copies of their written examination answer sheets for verification and reducing the weight of interview marks to a maximum of 5 points to minimize nepotism. Adhikari also noted that changes will be made to the Public Service Commission and the School Service Commission to maintain integrity in the selection process.
