West Bengal police arrest 107 in ‘Operation Cyber Prahar’ cybercrime crackdown

The West Bengal Cyber Crime Wing has launched ‘Operation Cyber Prahar’, a statewide intelligence-led initiative to dismantle organized cyber fraud syndicates. In the first seven days of the operation, authorities registered 69 FIRs and arrested 107 individuals. The estimated fraudulent amount involved in these activities is approximately Rs 92.66 crore.

Law enforcement conducted raids across multiple districts, including areas under the Kolkata Police jurisdiction. These actions resulted in the seizure of three illegal call centers used for fraudulent technical support and scam operations.

Beyond arrests, the operation targeted the financial and technical infrastructure supporting these crimes. This included deactivating over 400 SIM cards and targeting illicit mule accounts, suspicious ATM points, and illegal Point-of-Sale or SIM card issuance outlets used to facilitate untraceable transactions.
