West Bengal police freeze ex‑TMC MLA Sabyasachi Dutta's bank accounts
West Bengal police have frozen five bank accounts belonging to former Trinamool Congress MLA Sabyasachi Dutta, holding a total of about ₹1.70 crore. The authorities also seized a self‑deposit locker that may contain gold, a high‑end SUV registered in his wife Indira Dutta’s name, and a receipt for the purchase of 50 kg of gold.
Dutta, who served two terms from the Rajarhat‑Newtown constituency and was a former chairperson of the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, was arrested earlier this month on corruption and extortion allegations. Police continue to search for his wife, who has been on the run since his arrest. He is to appear before the Bidhannagar Court for a custody hearing.
