West Bengal police investigate two separate cases of sexual assault against minors

Police in West Bengal are investigating two distinct incidents involving the sexual assault of minors.

In Durgapur, a 74-year-old man, Shivaji Sau, was arrested following allegations that he held a minor girl captive and physically abused her. The victim's family intervened after hearing her cries, leading to the suspect's arrest and subsequent appearance in the Durgapur subdivision court.

In a separate incident in Baguiati, a 13-year-old student was allegedly kidnapped while traveling to meet a friend. According to the victim's mother, the girl was taken to a hotel in Bandel, Hooghly district, where she was forced to consume a sedative-laced drink. It is alleged that multiple individuals committed gang rape, filmed the assault, and used the footage to blackmail the family while demanding ransom. The Baguiati police have registered a case under the POCSO Act and are conducting an investigation.
