West Bengal police probe aide of Abhishek Banerjee in land-grabbing case
Police in West Bengal are investigating Sumit Roy, the executive assistant to Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, in connection with a land-grabbing case. Investigators suspect Roy used multiple SIM cards registered to various individuals in the Kalighat area of south Kolkata to conduct financial transactions, potentially via UPI.
Roy, who was recently taken into custody by the Salboni Police Station, is also implicated in alleged corruption related to the sand business. Authorities are currently determining whether the registered owners of the SIM cards were aware of their use or if their personal details were obtained illegally. Roy was produced before the Midnapore Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on Saturday, where the state opposed his request for bail.
