West Bengal politics face shifts amid Left Front crisis and INDIA bloc meeting
Political dynamics in West Bengal are shifting as the Left Front faces an existential crisis characterized by a youth exodus to centrist and right-wing parties. High-profile defections, including former student activist Kanhaiya Kumar to the Congress, highlight structural challenges and an aging hierarchy within the Communist organizations.
Simultaneously, the INDIA bloc is convening in New Delhi to address concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the functioning of the Election Commission. Opposition members have raised issues regarding voter verification and the deletion of names.
In response to these developments, West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh criticized the opposition's stance, arguing that the Election Commission has overseen previous victories for the Congress party. Ghosh defended the SIR process, stating it is necessary to separate false voters and non-citizens from the rolls.
