West Bengal reports of attacks on Christians and churches

Church leaders in West Bengal are calling for increased documentation and unity following reports of attacks on Christian families and places of worship. Bishop Paritosh Canning, Moderator of the Church of North India (CNI), urged church bodies to maintain updated parishioner records to counter allegations of religious conversions.

In East Medinipur district, a Christian family in West Arjunda village allegedly faced a violent assault by individuals identifying themselves as members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). Reports indicate a woman was knocked unconscious during the attack, which followed previous allegations of intimidation and demands that the family convert to Hinduism. The family has also alleged a delayed response from local police.

Reports of vandalism and disrupted prayer services have emerged from several areas, including West Midnapore, North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Bolpur, Nadia, and Kolkata. The Bangiya Christiya Parisheba (BCP) has sought intervention from state leadership regarding these incidents.
