West Bengal School Service Commission releases new teacher interview list

The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has released a new list of candidates eligible for interviews for Class 11-12 teaching positions. This update follows adjustments to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation structure, where the reservation was reduced from 17 per cent to 7 per cent.

While the total number of vacancies remains unchanged at 12,445, the reduction in OBC reservation has altered the subject-wise distribution of these roles. The commission also moved to a single OBC category, abolishing the previous two-tier OBC-A and OBC-B system following a change in state government and legal developments in 2026.

This recruitment process follows significant legal turmoil. In April 2025, the Supreme Court invalidated the entire 2016 recruitment panel, describing it as ‘tainted and vitiated,’ which resulted in the loss of approximately 26,000 teaching and non-teaching jobs. Although fresh examinations were conducted in late 2025, the subsequent recruitment and appointment process has faced various delays.
