West Bengal TMC faces internal rebellion and MP confrontations

On June 9, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee was confronted by a crowd at Kolkata Airport, where protestors shouted “chor, chor” and “Jai Shree Ram”. Banerjee accused West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari of theft, stating, “Suvendu Adhikari is a thief. He was seen taking Rs 5 lakh. He is the biggest thief.” The chants continued as he left the airport, reflecting heightened tension within the state’s politics.

A separate incident the same day saw residents of Gaighata in North 24 Parganas besiege a TMC worker’s house over alleged job‑scam fraud, chanting “chor, chor” and pelting the property with eggs, underscoring local frustration over corruption and unemployment.

Meanwhile, on June 11, BJP MP Raju Bista criticised talks of a possible TMC‑Congress merger, calling it “a massive failure” for Mamata Banerjee and saying the party was “surrendering to the Congress ideology.” His remarks followed recent meetings between senior TMC and Congress leaders, amid growing intra‑party dissent and a faction of TMC MPs forming a separate bloc.
