Abhishek Banerjee and aides face multiple investigations and arrest warrants in West Bengal

West Bengal law enforcement agencies have intensified scrutiny of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee. The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has interrogated him repeatedly over a signature‑mismatch case involving opposition legislators and a pre‑poll violence incitement case, with a third round of questioning planned. He has also been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in a multi‑crore cash‑for‑school‑job investigation.

Separately, Sumit Roy, Banerjee’s executive assistant, remains absconding after a court issued an arrest warrant in connection with an illegal land‑grabbing case filed at Salboni police station. Police conducted raids at Banerjee’s Kalighat residence based on Roy’s mobile‑tower location but did not locate him.

Other TMC figures have been targeted: party leader Jahangir Khan was paraded in Falta after his arrest on extortion charges near the India‑Nepal border, and West Bengal Minister Gouri Shankar Ghosh accused TMC MPs of job‑sale scams, promising investigations by central agencies. The series of arrests, interrogations, and warrants underscores mounting legal pressure on the ruling party’s senior members in the state.
