West Bengal TMC grapples with legal case and internal political turmoil
Executive assistant Sumit Roy, who works for Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee, applied to the Calcutta High Court for anticipatory bail after a West Bengal court issued an arrest warrant in a land‑grabbing case. Roy remains at large, with police from several agencies searching for him following a raid on Banerjee’s residence.
TMC leaders voiced dissent over the party’s recent setbacks. MP Asit Mal said the party has been relegated to the margins after fifteen years in power and denied that Banerjee is responsible for the current upheaval. He mentioned discussions on forming a new alliance with the NCP‑PCI and expressed openness to supporting the NDA, while other TMC MPs echoed the view that internal decisions will be decided in due course.
