West Bengal to merge Madrasah Service Commission with School Service Commission

The West Bengal government has decided to abolish the West Bengal Madrasah Service Commission (WBMSC) and merge its functions with the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC). This move aims to unify the administrative framework for teacher recruitment across the state.

Following the merger, recruitment for teaching and non-teaching staff in recognized High, Senior, and Junior High Madrasas will be handled through the WBSSC using a common recruitment process and merit panel. Officials stated the change is intended to streamline processes and reduce administrative delays.

To implement this decision, the state government is expected to introduce two separate bills in the legislature: one to repeal the West Bengal Madrasah Service Commission Act and another to amend the WBSSC Act.

The decision has faced criticism from the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO). SIO leader Md Tajuddin questioned the dissolution of the specialized body, which has been operational since 2008, expressing concern over the loss of established institutional experience.
