West Bengal transfers 1,177 acres to BSF for border fencing
The West Bengal government has transferred approximately 1,177 acres of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) to facilitate the completion of long-pending fencing along the India-Bangladesh border. This initiative, approved by the state's BJP-led government, aims to curb illegal cross-border infiltration and smuggling across nine sensitive districts.
To date, 1,653 km of the 2,216 km international border has been fenced. Land acquisition is nearing completion, with only 94 additional acres required to finish the process. Significant land transfers have occurred in Murshidabad, North 24-Parganas, Malda, and Nadia. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has emphasized the need to expedite these transfers to secure the border.
