West Coast Berbice crash kills driver, injures three
Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Sunday, 2 August 2026, at about 11:00 a.m. on the No. 22 Public Road in West Coast Berbice, Guyana. Motorcar PJJ 94, driven by 42‑year‑old Carlton Pluck of No. 8 Village, attempted to overtake traffic on a right bend and collided head‑on with motorcar PAP 2877, driven by 33‑year‑old Andre Stephen of New Amsterdam.
The crash left both vehicles extensively damaged. Carlton Pluck was taken to Bath Regional Hospital and later transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he remained unconscious and died on 4 August 2026. Andre Stephen, who tested positive for alcohol (17 µg), was treated at Bath Regional Hospital and discharged. Passengers Sean Cobagan (or Codagan) and Delon Codogan (or Codagan) sustained injuries but were reported stable after treatment at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Investigators continue to examine the circumstances of the collision, including speed and overtaking behavior. The body of the deceased is held at the Georgetown mortuary pending a post‑mortem examination.
