West Flanders municipalities hoist Peace Flag for International Day of Peace
On September 21, several municipalities in West Flanders, Belgium, participated in the International Day of Peace by hoisting the Peace Flag at their town halls. Participating locations included coastal towns such as Knokke-Heist, Bredene, Koksijde, and De Panne, as well as Veurne, Brugge, and Damme.
Approximately half of the municipalities in West Flanders joined the campaign. The initiative was organized by the Belgian Coalition Against Nuclear Weapons and Vrede vzw. Beyond the symbolic gesture of flying the flag, the organizers used the day to call for nuclear disarmament and a ban on nuclear weapons, urging the federal government to take an active international role in these efforts.
