West Ham United beat Southampton 4-1 in Carabao Cup

West Ham United secured a 4-1 victory over Southampton in the second round of the Carabao Cup, driven by a performance from several academy graduates. After falling behind early to a goal from Southampton’s Leo Scienza, West Ham responded through 19-year-old Joshua Ajala, who scored twice on his first full appearance for the senior side.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo fielded a youthful lineup including six academy players. In addition to Ajala’s brace, Lewis Orford provided two assists, and late goals from Taty Castellanos and Jarrod Bowen sealed the win at St Mary’s Stadium. The result marks West Ham’s first win of the season and their largest away win in the League Cup since 1967.

Southampton expressed frustration over defensive lapses that allowed the comeback, noting that they had dominated much of the early proceedings. The victory allows West Ham to progress to the fourth round of the competition.
