West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes linked with £80m moves to Manchester United or Liverpool

West Ham United's 21‑year‑old midfielder Mateus Fernandes is the subject of intense transfer speculation after the club's relegation to the Championship. The Hammers have set a valuation of around £80 million and have indicated they will not consider offers below £60‑70 million.

A BBC journalist reported that Manchester United are close to completing a deal, but West Ham’s board dismissed earlier claims of a £40 million offer and stressed they want a higher fee. Real Madrid manager José Mourinho, now at the Spanish club, has also expressed interest in Fernandes as a potential replacement for Aurélien Tchouaméni.

Liverpool are monitoring the player as well, with the club’s prospective new manager Andoni Iraola reportedly considering Fernandes as his first signing. Liverpool would have to compete with Manchester United and other interested clubs such as PSG, Arsenal and Juventus for the midfielder.

The transfer saga highlights West Ham’s need for funds following relegation, while the player’s price tag and interest from several top European teams underscore his rising profile.
