West Ham United ends Axel Disasi chase as defender rejects Championship move

French defender Axel Disasi has ruled out a return to West Ham United, stating he does not want to drop to the Championship and would prefer to stay in the Premier League or join a club playing in Europe. West Ham had been keen to sign him permanently after his loan spell, but his decision makes the move unlikely.

The club’s manager Nuno also explored signing Australian centre‑back Harry Souttar, who has attracted interest despite a history of serious injuries, including a torn ACL in 2021 and a ruptured Achilles in 2024. Souttar’s reported £10 million fee would be a significant gamble given his fitness record, but he could provide a defensive option for the Hammers as they aim for promotion.

Both stories reflect West Ham’s active transfer window as they seek to bolster their back‑line ahead of the upcoming season.
