Cricket West Indies implements 25% player salary cuts

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a major financial restructuring program to address significant cash flow challenges and high operational costs. As part of these measures, the board is implementing a 25% reduction in retainer fees for internationally contracted men’s players, effective from October 2026 to September 2027. Additionally, domestic player contracts will be reduced from 12 months to seven months.

To further reduce expenses, CWI has suspended this season’s men’s Super50 Cup and women’s T20 Blaze tournaments. CEO Chris Dehring cited the unsustainable costs of domestic travel and accommodation, noting that the board has spent approximately $80 million on domestic airlines over the last 15 years without receiving sponsorship benefits in return.

Despite these financial constraints, the West Indies team is preparing for an upcoming white-ball series against India, starting with an ODI in Thiruvananthapuram. Head coach Darren Sammy views the series as a critical test for the team ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup qualifiers, aiming to improve the squad's competitiveness on the world stage.
