West Indies relegated to 2027 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers

The West Indies have been officially relegated to the qualification stage for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. This follows Afghanistan’s victory over Ireland in their third One Day International (ODI), which secured Afghanistan the final automatic qualification spot.

To have secured automatic entry, the West Indies required Ireland to win their five-match series against Afghanistan with a score of either 4-1 or 5-0. Even with two remaining ODIs against India, the West Indies cannot mathematically regain an automatic position. This marks the third consecutive time the team must participate in the Qualifiers to reach the tournament, following their failure to secure direct entry for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

The ICC Qualifiers are scheduled for February next year. The winner of the tournament will receive direct entry into the second round of the 2027 World Cup, while other advancing teams will compete in a first-round Super Series to determine further progression.
