West Ipoh Span Expressway secures RM5.55 billion sukuk

The West Ipoh Span Expressway (WISE) project has moved into the implementation phase following the successful issuance of RM5.55 billion in sukuk. Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad confirmed that the financing issues that previously stalled the project have been resolved.

The 60-kilometer highway is a Private Financing Initiative (PFI) and does not utilize state government funds. Land acquisition works have already commenced, with the next phase involving construction. The expressway will serve as an alternative route to the Menora Tunnel, connecting Gopeng to Kuala Kangsar via Batu Gajah, Siputeh, Manong, Tronoh, Beko, and Seri Iskandar.

The Ministry of Works is considering a six-month extension for the involved concession company, as the current principal approval period is set to expire in September 2026.
