West Java broadcasting officials address digital regulatory gaps

During the 2026 West Java Regional Broadcasting Day (Harsiarda) celebrations held in West Bandung Regency, media practitioners and officials addressed the challenges facing traditional broadcasting in the digital age.

Adiyana Slamet, Chairman of the West Java Regional Broadcasting Commission (KPID), highlighted the regulatory imbalance between conventional television and radio and digital platforms such as Over-The-Top (OTT) and Video on Demand (VOD). Slamet noted that West Java manages 423 broadcasting institutions—the highest number in Indonesia—and argued that any reduction in the number of KPID commissioners must account for the heavy supervisory workload and geographic scale of the province.

West Bandung Regent Jeje Ritchie Ismail emphasized the necessity of accurate, verified radio and television broadcasts to combat the spread of hoaxes and misinformation on social media. He encouraged the public to continue utilizing traditional media as credible sources of education and entertainment, while urging broadcasting institutions to remain strategic partners in promoting local development and regional culture.
