West Java government plans to prevent waste crisis at Sarimukti landfill

The West Java Provincial Government is implementing strategies to address the projected depletion of the Sarimukti landfill in West Bandung Regency. The facility is expected to reach full capacity by the end of 2026, while the Bandung Raya region continues to generate approximately 5,000 tons of waste daily.

To extend the landfill's operational lifespan, authorities plan to optimize Zone 5 through technical engineering and compaction processes. This work will be guided by technical studies from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) to ensure safety, particularly regarding methane gas levels. Additionally, the provincial government intends to construct gravity walls on the southern and eastern sides of the site to expand capacity.
