West Java Governor announces free Class 3 medical care for residents

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has announced a policy to provide free Class 3 medical treatment for residents who are sick, involved in accidents, or victims of crime. This initiative aims to protect citizens regardless of their BPJS Kesehatan status, covering those with overdue payments, expired memberships, or no insurance at all. The costs will be shared between the West Java Provincial Government and local regency or municipal governments.

To implement this, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with hospital leaders across West Java and Jakarta, involving 86 hospitals including provincial, regional, central referral, and private facilities. The provincial government also emphasized prioritizing the treatment of rare diseases and accelerating the reduction of stunting and malnutrition.

While local governments, such as the Tasikmalaya Regency Government, have expressed support for the initiative, they have noted the need for clear technical regulations and derivative legal frameworks. Local officials emphasized that specific guidelines are required to ensure the program is implemented legally and reaches the correct targets.
