West Java initiatives focus on food sovereignty and cooperative economic roles

In West Java, the West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) are expanding agricultural initiatives to support national food sovereignty. Police Chief Irjen Pol. Hengki recently led the planting of one ton of garlic seeds in Bandung Barat. As of mid-October 2026, the police have managed 105.66 hectares of farmland across the province, with 34.12 hectares already planted. This movement aims to prepare for a national garlic harvest event expected to be led by the President of Indonesia.

Separately, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto addressed a proposal regarding the distribution of Civil Servant (ASN) salaries through the Merah Putih Village/Ward Cooperative (KDKMP). During a visit to Padalarang, Bandung Barat, Arya clarified that using cooperatives for salary distribution is currently only a possibility and not a final decision. He emphasized that the scheme is not mandatory and requires further inter-agency study to ensure operational readiness. The government also intends to explore using these cooperatives for the distribution of social assistance (bansos).
