Taufik Hidayat arrested in Bandung kidnapping and abuse case

Police in West Java arrested 30‑year‑old Taufik Hidayat on 23‑24 June 2026 after a months‑long manhunt. He is the prime suspect in the kidnapping and severe abuse of his 29‑year‑old girlfriend, identified only as YTR, in the Bandung area (Cileunyi, Ciparay, Majalaya). Investigations revealed that YTR was held captive in a rented room for about three years, during which she suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including loss of vision, facial wounds and paralysis.

Taufik was listed as a Daftar Pencarian Orang (DPO) and was tracked through a series of online‑shopping transactions that led officers to his hideout in Majalaya, where he was captured without resistance. He is now being held in a specially monitored cell at the Polda Jawa Barat headquarters, with CCTV surveillance and ongoing health and psychiatric examinations.

The case has drawn statements from a range of officials: the Majelis Ulama Indonesia urged parents to monitor their children’s relationships; members of the DPR (Commission III) and the Minister of Women’s and Children’s Protection called for swift, transparent prosecution and heavy penalties; the Governor of West Java announced a Rp250 million bounty for information leading to his arrest. Authorities stress that the perpetrator will face the maximum punishments under the criminal code for aggravated assault and kidnapping, while victim support services are being coordinated for YTR’s medical and psychological recovery.
